Ajay Devgn’s Singham Again to head to Sri Lanka drawing parallels with Ramayana: Report

The theme of good versus evil has always been central to the Singham series, with Ajay Devgn’s character, Bajirao Singham, standing up against injustice. This time, director Rohit Shetty has drawn inspiration from one of the most iconic Indian epics—the Ramayana—for Singham Again, the third installment in the franchise.

As per a report by Mid-Day, “The story of Ramayana has inspired filmmakers over generations. When Rohit sat down to create Singham Again, he wanted to give the audience something new yet rooted in our culture. In a way, Ajay’s cop caper is inspired by the classic epic where good wins over evil.”
The Plot: Singham Heads to Sri Lanka
In Singham Again, Bajirao Singham takes his fight for justice beyond the borders of India, heading to Sri Lanka to confront his new foe. This time, he’s not alone—he is accompanied by a group of cops, referred to as his “sena” (army), ready to battle against the forces of evil. The report quoted a source saying, “Arjun plays a militant in the actioner. Ajay’s Singham, accompanied by his sena of cops, will be seen heading to Sri Lanka to lock horns with the villain.”
Star-Studded Cast Of Singham Again Set For a Diwali Release
Singham Again boasts a powerful ensemble cast, including Kareena Kapoor Khan, Deepika Padukone, Arjun Kapoor, and Tiger Shroff. The film will also feature special appearances by Akshay Kumar and Ranveer Singh, adding even more star power to this highly anticipated Diwali release.

Meanwhile, the actioner will be clashing with the third installment of the horror-comedy franchise, Bhool Bhulaiyaa. Starring Kartik Aaryan with Triptii Dimri and Vidya Balan, it is directed by Anees Bazmee. Reportedly, Madhuri Dixit will also be seen in the film.

3 days before release, Devara – Part 1’s makers voluntarily cut 7 minutes from Hindi version; Jr NTR starrer faces screen sharing issues in Maharashtra due to Dharmaveer 2

The much-awaited film Devara – Part 1 is all set to release tomorrow, that is, Friday, September 27 and the excitement is tremendous, especially for its original Telugu version. The advance booking is smashing down South and the trade is hoping that it’ll emerge as one of the biggest openers in the home market. Meanwhile, it has come to light that the makers have voluntarily reduced the film’s run time.

The original length of Devara – Part 1 is 177 minutes and 58 seconds, that is, 2 hours 57 minutes and 58 seconds. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) passed the film’s Hindi version with a U/A certificate on September 18. Then, on September 24, the makers approached the CBFC once again to inform them that a 4-minute 41-second scene had been cut from the film. The scene starts with the dialogue ‘Kya re, samandar pe rehne waale ko tu machli bech raha hai kya’ and ends at ‘Tere saath ek raat pakka bitaungi’. Secondly, the rolling titles of 2 minutes and 19 seconds have also been cut.

After these modifications, the duration of Devara – Part 1 is 170.58 minutes, that is, 2 hours 50 minutes and 58 seconds. In all, 7 minutes of the film has been cut by the makers.

A similar reduction in length has also been done in the Telugu version of Devara – Part 1. It was passed by the CBFC on September 11 while the additional cuts were made on September 19.

Bollywood Hungama, on September 12, reported that the CBFC had cut 3 violent scenes and asked the makers to insert the CGI mark in the shark scene.

Meanwhile, the advance booking of Devara – Part 1’s Hindi version has still not opened in many theatres in Maharashtra. As per exhibition sources, the film is facing screen-sharing issues. The highly anticipated Marathi film, Dharmaveer: Mukkam Post Thane 2, also releases on September 27.

An exhibition official told us, “The earlier part, Dharamveer (2022), was a huge hit and moreover, both parts are based on Anand Dighe, the revered mentor of Eknath Shinde, who is the Chief Minister of Maharashtra at present. The single screens and some two-screen theatres are figuring out how to divide the shows. They are in touch with the respective distributors to find a solution.”

Another exhibitor said, “The show-sharing issue is a bit complicated as last week’s Marathi release, Navra Maza Navsacha 2, is performing exceptionally well in Maharashtra. Hence, which film to be accommodated and how many shows are given to them is what the exhibitors are confused about. Nevertheless, the issue is expected to be resolved by Thursday evening.”

Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency can get certification if specific cuts are made: CBFC informs to Bombay HC

Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency can get certification if specific cuts are made: CBFC informs to Bombay HC

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) informed the Bombay High Court on Thursday, September 26, that Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming film Emergency could receive its certification if specific cuts recommended by its revising committee are implemented. The film, originally slated for a September 6 release, has faced delays due to an ongoing battle with the censor board over certification.

Legal Struggles and Allegations Against CBFC In Emergency Controversy

Kangana Ranaut, who directed and co-produced Emergency while also playing the lead role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, accused the CBFC of stalling the film’s certification process in a deliberate effort to delay its release. The biographical drama has been embroiled in controversy, with some Sikh organizations, including the Shiromani Akali Dal, alleging that the movie misrepresents the community and distorts historical facts.

In response, a division bench of Justices B P Colabawalla and Firdosh Pooniwalla expressed frustration at the CBFC for not taking timely action. Last week, the bench stated that the board “cannot sit on the fence” and must make a decision, as further delay could restrict freedom of speech and expression. The court set a deadline for the CBFC to decide by September 25.

CBFC’s Stand in Court For Issuing Certificate To Emergency

On September 26, when asked by the Bombay High Court whether there was any update, CBFC’s counsel, Abhinav Chandrachud, confirmed that the revising committee had concluded. “The committee has suggested some cuts before the certificate can be issued and the movie can be released,” Chandrachud told the court. Senior counsel Sharan Jagtiani, representing Zee Entertainment Enterprises, the co-producer of Emergency, requested time to decide whether the cuts would be accepted.

Emergency Controversy Over Delay

Zee Entertainment Enterprises had earlier filed a plea with the Bombay High Court, urging the CBFC to issue the certificate for the film. The production house alleged that the certificate was complete but was being withheld, suggesting political interference as the cause. Zee Entertainment pointed to the upcoming elections in Haryana as a possible reason for the delay. However, the court questioned this claim, given Ranaut’s affiliation as a BJP MP, making the political angle unclear.

Hearing to Continue

The court has now scheduled the matter for further hearing on September 30, providing Zee Entertainment Enterprises time to review the cuts suggested by the CBFC. The decision on whether the film Emergency will proceed to release with or without the cuts remains to be seen.
