Kiran Rao directorial Laapataa Ladies set to premiere in Japan on October 4, 2024

After creating an impression in India, Laapataa Ladies is making its way to Japan. Kiran Rao, the film’s director, confirmed on Instagram that it will be released in Japan next month.

On Wednesday, Kiran Rao posted a clip from the movie, captioning it, “Laapataa Ladies will be found in Japan from October 4, 2024. We are so excited for our theatrical release in Japan by Shochiku, Japan – arigato gozaimasu.”

The film, set in rural India, follows the tale of two brides who are separated during a train ride, setting off a series of unexpected and complex events.

Actor Aamir Khan and director Kiran Rao recently attended a screening of their film Laapataa Ladies at the Supreme Court.

At the event, Aamir Khan discussed his reasons for producing the film, stating his desire to give back to society by creating opportunities for emerging talent. He also reflected on his experience during the COVID-19 pandemic, noting that he chose to dedicate his remaining active years to making a more meaningful impact on the film industry.

During an interview with Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud Aamir Khan said, “During Covid, I had a lot of free time and used to keep thinking. I realised that I might have 15 more years of active work left…uske baad zindagi kisne dekhi hai…. I wanted to give back to people whatever I have learned in the past so many years. The industry, society, and country have given me so much. I thought that I could do one film a year as an actor, but as a producer, I can produce many more films. I want to give platform to new talents. I can provide a platform for new writers, directors, and everyone involved in the process.”

He added, “Laapataa Ladies is the first project in that sense. I want to promote this kind of talent and hopefully, I can produce four to five films a year. I want to be the shoulder for talent.”

Laapataa Ladies, a film centered on gender equality, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in September 2023, where it was met with a standing ovation. The movie features Ravi Kishan, Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ratna, and Sparsh Shrivastav in key roles.

Sector 36 Trailer: Netflix film promises to be a thrilling crime saga of a cat-and-mouse game between Vikrant Massey and Deepak Dobriyal

Sector 36 Trailer: Netflix film promises to be a thrilling crime saga of a cat-and-mouse game between Vikrant Massey and Deepak Dobriyal

Reeling viewers in, Netflix dropped the trailer for its upcoming crime thriller – Sector 36, on Thursday, September 5. Produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films and Jio Studios, the film traces the story of a once-complacent police inspector who is on the heels of a devious serial killer when justice becomes personal as several children go missing from a ‘basti’ (slum) in Sector 36. Inspired by true events, Sector 36 is directed by debutante Aditya Nimbalkar.

Deliberately paced, the trailer follows Inspector Ram Charan Pandey (Deepak Dobriyal), father to a young daughter and doting husband, as he chases after a serial killer despite warnings to desist. With the lives of missing children in the balance, he hunts the enigmatic yet beguiling Prem Singh (Vikrant Massey), hiding in plain sight. A high-tension cat-and-mouse chase ensues, making Sector 36 a spine-chilling tale of crimes.

Talking about his role in the film, Vikrant Massey said, “Stepping into the character of Prem for this film was unlike anything I’ve done before. To convincingly play a layered and terrifying killer who could pass off as any other person has been difficult. Aditya (Nimbalkar) has done a great job in creating this gritty world meticulously. This is an incredibly important film, and as storytellers, alongside Netflix and Maddock Films, we hope the audience will be able to see the need to tell stories like these.”

Deepak Dobriyal added, “I was captivated by the Sector 36 script from the very beginning. It’s a powerful thriller that brings to light class disparity, and how crime thrives when left unchecked. Inspired by true events, my character brings an investigative urgency to an exciting film that focuses on the hunter and the hunted. I am grateful to Netflix, Maddock Films, Jio Studios, and Aditya Nimbalkar for this opportunity.”

Written by Bodhayan Roychaudhury and produced by Dinesh Vijan and Jyoti Deshpande under the banner Maddock Films and Jio Studios, Sector 36 will premiere on September 13 exclusively on Netflix.

Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri is a filmmaker who has always created a stir with his films. He is one of those filmmakers who address social issues both on and off the screen. This is evident in his film, The Kashmir Files, where he brought to light the genocide of Kashmiri Pandits in Kashmir. The film turned out to be a blockbuster and made waves across the globe, earning Vivek tremendous acclaim for his remarkable work.

This recognition continued recently when the filmmaker was invited by the prestigious Oxford Union to debate on Kashmir. However, the filmmaker rejected the invitation, finding the theme offensive, anti-India, and anti-Kashmir.

I found the theme offensive, anti-India, and anti-Kashmir. On principle, I have declined the offer. PFA my decline letter.”
