Shah Rukh Khan and Anil Kapoor fans, rejoice: Veer-Zaara to re-release on September 13; Taal on September 20; Pardes, Tezaab also expected to be back in theatres

Shah Rukh Khan and Anil Kapoor fans, rejoice: Veer-Zaara to re-release on September 13; Taal on September 20; Pardes, Tezaab also expected to be back in theatres

The re-release season that began with Rockstar (2011) this year has picked up pace and how. The trend has partly also grown due to the lack of significant releases in cinemas after the mega clash of Stree 2, Vedaa and Khel Khel Mein. Yesterday saw the re-release of Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein (2001), both parts of Gangs Of Wasseypur and Kantara. The former, starring R Madhavan and Dia Mirza, opened to full houses in many theatres. And now, many more films are up for re-release in September.

As per sources, Shah Rukh Khan fans are in for joy as two of his films will hit theatres – Pardes (1997) and Veer-Zaara (2004). The source said, “Veer-Zaara will be released on September 13. It’ll have selected shows per day in cinemas and based on the demand, the shows would be increased.”

The source added, “Pardes would be out on September 20 or 27. A confirmed date will be revealed soon.”

Pardes (1997), co-starring Mahima Chaudhry and Apurva Agnihotri was directed by Subhash Ghai and the master filmmaker’s other memorable film, Taal (1999), would be out on September 20. The musical starred Akshaye Khanna, Anil Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

For Anil fans, too, September would turn out to be memorable. The source added, “Zee Studios is also seriously considering to re-release Tezaab in the second half of next month.” It also starred Madhuri Dixit Nene and its song ‘Ek Do Teen’ has achieved cult status.

Meanwhile, there were talks of Tumbbad (2018) getting a release on August 30. But news is now out that it will re-release on September 13.

Another two old classics doing well in cinemas are Laila Majnu (2018) and Salman Khan-starrer Maine Pyar Kiya (1989). The re-release of Laila Majnu, especially, has stunned the industry and trade. This is because it collected just Rs. 2.89 crores upon its release 6 years back. But the re-release collections are expected to touch Rs. 8 crores or even Rs. 10 crores.

In a display of solidarity with the victims of violence against women, singer Shreya Ghoshal has announced the postponement of her upcoming concert in Kolkata. The singer’s statement, released on Saturday morning, expressed her deep anguish and sorrow over the brutal rape and murder of a doctor in the city.

Tiger Shroff’s struggling career takes another Hit as Hero No. 1 shelved; his high fees & large entourage to be blamed

Tiger Shroff’s struggling career takes another Hit as Hero No. 1 shelved; his high fees & large entourage to be blamed

Tiger Shroff had a rocking debut in 2014 with Heropanti and soon became a darling of the masses. Sadly, things are not going smoothly for the actor of late. His last three films Heropanti 2, Ganapath and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan flopped big time and also suffered trolling due to its poor content. Ganapath also got into trouble after its VFX shots were left incomplete, prompting Netflix to back off from the deal. And Bollywood Hungama has now learned that Hero No 1, Tiger Shroff’s film with Mission Mangal (2019) director Jagan Shakti, has been indefinitely put on hold.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “The film is produced by Vashu Bhagnani and its shooting is 20% complete. The remaining portions were to be shot after the release of Bade Miyan Chote Miyan in April. But BMCM was a major loss maker for Bhagnani’s Pooja Entertainment. They are in a huge debt and are not in a position to put money to shoot Hero No 1. Hence, it’s as good as being shelved.”

Jagan Shakti has already moved on to his next project. He’s working on Ajay Devgn’s adventure film, produced by Luv Ranjan. It is expected to go on floors in December this year.

Besides Tiger Shroff, Hero No 1 also starred Disha Patani and Pashmina Roshan of Ishq Vishk Rebound (2024) fame. Interestingly, Sara Ali Khan had come on board earlier and reportedly, she even shot for a scene with Tiger in December 2022 in the UK. This was also the time when the film was supposedly titled Mission Eagle. Due to date issues, Sara opted out and was replaced with Disha.

For Tiger Shroff, this development is a big blow. A trade expert told Bollywood Hungama, “In the past, his films like Screw Dheela and Rambo also got shelved but they never went on floors. Hero No 1 was shot and then got indefinitely stalled.”

Screw Dheela’s grand announcement video, however, was filmed and even released online. In August 2022, Bollywood Hungama was the first one to report that the film was put on the backburner due to its high budget, unpredictable box office scenario and average response to the announcement video.

The expert further said, “Tiger Shroff’s last three films have been colossal flops and on top of it, his fees are high. Even his entourage cost put a hole in the pockets of the producers. Thankfully, he has Baaghi 4 in his kitty. Here’s hoping he goes for a course correction so that he can bounce back.”

Kangana Ranaut drops a video as Emergency faces uncertainty from CBFC amid rising tensions: “People of the censor board are also getting a lot of threats”

Kangana Ranaut drops a video as Emergency faces uncertainty from CBFC amid rising tensions: “People of the censor board are also getting a lot of threats”

Kangana Ranaut, actor and newly elected Member of Parliament, recently addressed the mounting concerns surrounding her latest film Emergency. Ranaut, who portrays former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the film, revealed that the project faces significant obstacles with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

In a video message shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, Ranaut clarified the situation, stating, “There are rumours that our film Emergency has got a censor certificate. It is not true. In fact, our film was cleared earlier but its certification has been stopped because of several threats.”

— Kangana Ranaut (@KanganaTeam) August 30, 2024

Ranaut further disclosed that both she and members of the CBFC have been receiving threats related to the film’s content. According to the actor, pressure is being exerted on the board to censor specific parts of the film, particularly scenes depicting Indira Gandhi’s assassination, the involvement of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, and the Punjab riots. “People of the censor board are also getting a lot of threats. There is pressure on us not to show the assassination of Mrs. Gandhi, Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, and the Punjab riots. I don’t know what we will show then, that there is a blackout in the film. This is an unbelievable time for me and I am very sorry for this state of things in this country,” she lamented.

The film, which was initially scheduled for release on September 6, now faces an uncertain future. Earlier, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) issued a legal notice to the CBFC, demanding a halt to the film’s release. The notice argues that the film could potentially incite communal tensions and spread misinformation, particularly concerning the portrayal of the Sikh community.

As reported by NDTV, the legal notice sent on August 27 argues that the film’s depictions are not only misleading but also harmful to the social cohesion of Punjab and the broader national community. “Such depictions are not only misleading but also deeply offensive and damaging to the social fabric of Punjab and the entire nation. It is apparent that Ranaut has chosen the subject of the Emergency not to make a genuine political or historical statement against Congress, but rather to target the Sikh community,” the notice stated. The SAD claims that the movie portrays the Sikh community in an unjust and negative light, which could have serious repercussions.

The controversy surrounding Emergency has escalated in recent days, with Ranaut also reaching out to the police for assistance. A recent development has brought Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming film Emergency under scrutiny, as members of the Sikh community have expressed strong objections to its content. Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has reportedly assured community leaders that the state government will explore the possibility of prohibiting the film’s release, pending legal counsel.

Earlier this week, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), the apex body responsible for the management of historical Gurdwaras, issued a legal notice to the producers of the film, including Kangana Ranaut, alleging that the movie misrepresents Sikh history and contains scenes that have deeply offended the Sikh community. The SGPC’s legal notice demanded the immediate removal of objectionable scenes from Emergency and called for an apology from the filmmakers to the Sikh community. The SGPC also insisted that the film’s trailer, which was released on August 14, be taken down from all public and social media platforms.
