Kunal Kapoor joins cast of Ranbir Kapoor, Nitesh Tiwari’s epic Ramayana; begins prep for role: Report

Kunal Kapoor has officially joined the cast of the much-anticipated film Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari. This epic production already boasts big names like Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi, with Ranbir playing Lord Rama and Sai Pallavi portraying Maa Sita. The addition of Kunal Kapoor to the cast promises to bring even more excitement to this grand project.

Preparations and role details

According to a report by Pinkvilla, Kunal Kapoor has already begun preparing for his role in Ramayana. The actor is busy with rehearsals and costume trials, indicating the level of dedication and effort being put into the film. While the specifics of Kunal’s character are still under wraps, the buzz around his involvement is generating significant interest among fans and industry insiders alike.

Other cast members and their roles

The star-studded cast of Ramayana doesn’t end with Kunal Kapoor. South star Yash is set to play the formidable Ravana, while Lara Dutta will reportedly take on the role of Surpanakha. This ensemble of talented actors is expected to bring depth and intensity to the retelling of this ancient epic.

A two-part saga

Ramayana is being envisioned as a two-part saga, reflecting the scale and complexity of the story. A source close to the development told the publication, “Given the scale and magnitude of the film, the makers have opted for a two-part approach to tell the story. While most in the business await the results of part one before taking the second one on floors, Ramayana will be shot simultaneously.” The production team has outlined a 350-day shoot schedule for the two films, aiming to wrap up by December 2025. This ambitious timeline underscores the dedication and planning behind this massive project.

Kunal Kapoor’s upcoming projects

In addition to his role in Ramayana, Kunal Kapoor has a busy schedule ahead. He recently finished shooting for Jewel Thief: The Red Sun Chapter, a film produced by Siddharth Anand and co-starring Saif Ali Khan. Kunal is also involved in the socio-fantasy film Vishwambhara with Chiranjeevi and has a movie lined up with Aamir Khan Productions. Beyond films, Kunal is set to take on the role of a vigilante in an upcoming action web series, showcasing his versatility as an actor.

SCOOP: G V Prakash Kumar replaces Oscar-winning composer M M Keeravani as music director in Akshay Kumar-starrer Skyforce

SCOOP: G V Prakash Kumar replaces Oscar-winning composer M M Keeravani as music director in Akshay Kumar-starrer Skyforce

Akshay Kumar is all set to have 4 releases in 2024. He began his account this year with the action entertainer Bade Miyan Chote Miyan followed by the biopic Sarfira. Next month, he’ll have a comic caper up for release – Khel Khel Mein. This would be followed by Skyforce, an aerial action thriller. While fans of Akshay are awaiting Khel Khel Mein’s release on August 15, they are also keeping an eye on Skyforce as it looks quite exciting due to various factors. Bollywood Hungama has learned about an interesting development surrounding the October 2 release.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “National award-winning composer G V Prakash Kumar has signed the film as a composer. He came on board a few days back and has begun work on the film. He has assured the team that he’ll complete his work on time so Skyforce can release on its intended date.”

The source added, “It was Oscar-winning composer M M Keeravani of RRR (2022) fame who was the original choice for the makers. However, he and producer Dinesh Vijan had differences of opinion. Hence, they cordially decided to not work on Skyforce. But they promised to join hands in future for an appropriate film.”

The source continued, “Meanwhile, G V Prakash Kumar had just composed the songs and background score for Sarfira and Akshay had a great time working with him. He was also in sync with the vision of the makers. Both parties were excited with the prospects of working with each other and that’s how he became a part of Skyforce.”

Interestingly, one of the directors of Skyforce, Sandeep Kewlani, posted a video today on his Instagram handle to state that Skyforce’s shoot has been completed. He has tagged various cast and crew members in the tweet and one of them is G V Prakash Kumar.

Besides Akshay Kumar, Skyforce also stars Sara Ali Khan, Veer Pahariya and Nimrat Kaur. It is backed by Dinesh Vijan of Maddock Films and Jyoti Deshpande of Jio Studios. Besides Sandeep Kewlani, it is also directed by Abhishek Kapur.

G V Prakash Kumar, meanwhile, is the nephew of A R Rahman who made his debut as a film composer at the age of 19 with the 2006 Tamil movie Veyil. He won the National Award for Aadukalam (2010). In Hindi, he had previously worked on Gangs Of Wasseypur (2012), Joker (2012), Ugly (2014) and Thalaivii (2021). His other films this year are Kangana Ranaut-starrer Emergency, Vikram’s Pan-India film Thangalan, the sea horror thriller trilogy Kingston, etc.

SCOOP: Salman Khan-Sooraj Barjatya crack a script idea: “It is unlike anything they have done, individually or together”

SCOOP: Salman Khan-Sooraj Barjatya crack a script idea: “It is unlike anything they have done, individually or together”

Sooraj Barjatya, who last directed Uunchai in 2022, is all set to reunite with Salman Khan with whom he was last seen 2015’s Prem Rattan Dhan Payo.

And no, the film is not called Prem Ki Shaadi.

A friend of Barjatya wondered where that came from. “Sooraj ji is not making anything titled Prem Ki Shaadi. It is a totally different script. He is coming together again with Salman,” said the friend.

Salman Khan and Soorat Barjatya started their careers with the historic hit Maine Pyar Kiya (Salman’s first lead role). Ever since then, they have worked together in four blockbusters of varying degrees of success. Their last film together was Prem Ratan Dhan Payo in 2015. Ever since then, they have been searching high and low for the right script, with no luck….

…until now.

This writer has just come to know that Sooraj and Salman have finally zeroed in on their next project.

A source very close to the development informed, “For nine years, Soorajji and Salman Bhai have been looking for a script that would bring them together again after Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. They’ve finally cracked an idea that they both like. Nahin toh pehle yeh tha ke ek ko pasand toh doosre ko nahin.”

This writer probed further to know more about the next SB-SK collaboration and the informer said, “All I can tell you is, their next will be unlike anything they have done, individually or together. And no, it isn’t called Prem Ki Shaadi.”

This, we have to see. The film is expected to roll early next year.

The last Sooraj-Salman partnership Prem Ratan Dhan Payo was a fable on the aspirations of modern India as well as a fairytale where the ‘Pauper’ can change places with the ‘Prince’ to experience what it feels like on the other side of the line of affluence. Significantly there are two Salman Khans in the film, signifying the dual personality in conflict in modern India.

Ranbir Kapoor and Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana: 12 opulent sets being erected to recreate Ayodhya and Mithila in Mumbai; shoot resumes late August 2024: Report

Ranbir Kapoor and Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana: 12 opulent sets being erected to recreate Ayodhya and Mithila in Mumbai; shoot resumes late August 2024: Report

Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious adaptation of the epic Ramayana is rapidly transforming from a grand vision into a tangible reality. With Ranbir Kapoor in the titular role, the film promises to be a visual spectacle, and recent developments suggest that the director is sparing no expense to bring the mythological world to life.

Construction is in full swing at Film City, where sprawling twelve sets are being erected. According to a report in Mid-Day, these opulent sets, designed to accommodate the film’s 3D format, will recreate iconic locations like Ayodhya and Mithila, the cities synonymous with Ram and Sita. The ambitious target is to complete these massive constructions by mid-August.

Joining Kapoor as the leading lady is Sai Pallavi, who will portray Sita, while veteran actor Arun Govil, best known for his portrayal of Ram in the iconic television series Ramayan, will take on the role of King Dasharath. Yash is signed as Ravana, a role that promises to be career-defining.

While the initial focus has been on capturing Ram’s younger years, the production is gearing up for the next phase, with the principal cast set to resume shooting in late August. A surprising revelation has emerged about the film’s structure: it will be a two-part epic.

Unlike traditional filmmaking practices where the sequel is greenlit based on the first part’s performance, the makers of Ramayana are adopting a more aggressive approach. A significant portion of the second part is slated to be filmed concurrently with the first.

The production schedule is a meticulously crafted blueprint spanning 350 days, encompassing both individual and ensemble sequences. The goal is to wrap principal photography for both parts by December 2025, allowing ample time for post-production, which will be handled by the renowned visual effects studio, DNEG. While the release date remains under wraps, it is expected to be announced once the first part of the filming is complete.
