Ranveer Singh to kick off Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar on July 25; screenplay inspired by true events from R&AW: Report

Filmmaker Aditya Dhar is gearing up for his next high-octane project – a gripping espionage thriller titled Dhurandhar. While his previous mythological venture, The Immortal Ashwatthama, is currently on hold, Dhar isn’t wasting any time. Dhurandhar boasts a star-studded cast, bringing together Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, and Arjun Rampal for the very first time.

As per a report in Pinkvilla, the action-packed thriller is set in the world of Indian intelligence agencies. The shooting will commence on July 25, 2024! The first leg of filming will take place in Thailand, a key location for intelligence network interactions. The source further revealed, “It’s a film set during the golden era of Indian Intelligence Agencies, coinciding with the rise of R&AW. The team unites for the international leg, followed by schedules in India and UAE.” The screenplay is reportedly inspired by true events from the chronicles of R&AW.

While an official title hasn’t been announced yet, the stakeholders recently gathered for a photoshoot. “Ranveer is thrilled to be venturing into the world of espionage with Aditya Dhar. Sanjay Dutt portrays the antagonist, while Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, R Madhavan, and Arjun Rampal will be seen representing the Indian intelligence apparatus,” the source further elaborated.

To ensure character authenticity, all the actors have undergone meticulous look tests to match the appearance and demeanour of real-life agents. The source enthusiastically stated, “After the phenomenal success of Uri, this is the perfect follow-up for director Aditya Dhar. He’s deeply fascinated by the world of spies and firmly believes this film will resonate with audiences globally. Ranveer is equally pumped to reunite with Dhar on set. With a filming period of six months, the movie is slated for a theatrical release in the second half of 2025.”

Aditya Dhar, alongside his brother Lokesh Dhar, will be producing Dhurandhar under their banner, B62 Studios. However, they’re also collaborating with a major studio for the project.

Reports suggest a massive budget and an unprecedented shooting scale for Dhurandhar. The film will be extensively shot in India and overseas locations, hinting at a global storyline or action sequences set in unique international settings.

Daler Mehndi collaborates with Qawwali singers Ustad Sher Ali and Ustad Mehr Ali for upcoming single ‘Ankhiyan Te Ja Ladiyan’

Singer Daler Mehndi is gearing up for the release of his latest track, ‘Ankhiyan Te Ja Ladiyan.’ Fresh off his electrifying performance at Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s wedding, Mehndi sets his sights on July 25 as the release date for this much-anticipated song.

‘Ankhiyan Te Ja Ladiyan’ promises a unique blend of traditional Punjabi sounds and contemporary flair. According to a report in Mid-day, the song incorporates the captivating rhythms of the Balochi dhol, a welcome departure from the typical Punjabi dhol. Mehndi, who also composed the number, emphasizes the song’s positive message. “The aspect that I like about this number is that it doesn’t make any references to alcohol or abusive language. The lyrics have been tactfully penned,” he tells the publication.

“It has a pure Punjabi vibe,” he explains. “I wanted it to be reminiscent of old, [traditional] numbers, and to ensure that it did not appear like a copy of any past work. It has all the flavours that have been associated with my music.”

The song is the culmination of eight years of creative exploration, with Mehndi collaborating with the acclaimed Qawwali veterans, Ustad Sher Ali and Ustad Mehr Ali, for a period of eight months. “At the age of 75, their vocal quality is laudable,” Mehndi says. “I needed to join hands with artistes who could [render] a song like they did.”

“When I made music 30 years ago, I created those melodies,” he reflects. “It wasn’t ‘Punjabi music’. It was Daler Mehndi’s music. I am glad that my songs continue to be cherished over the years, and also be consumed by the next generation.”

Produced by Gunbir Singh Sidhu and Manmord Sidhu of White Hill Studios along with Story Time Productions, Sardaarji 3 marks the next chapter in a franchise that has entertained audiences since 2015. The first film, aptly named Sardaar Ji, introduced us to Jaggi, a ghost hunter played by Dosanjh. Actresses Mandy Takhar and Neeru Bajwa also starred in the movie.

Building on the success of the original, a sequel titled Sardaar Ji 2 hit theatres in 2016. This time, Dosanjh took on a triple role, showcasing his acting versatility. Monica Gill and Sonam Bajwa joined the cast, and both films were directed by Rohit Jugraj Chauhan.

Dosanjh is currently riding high on the success of his latest release, Jatt & Juliet 3, which released in June 2024. Co-starring Neeru Bajwa once again, the romantic comedy has already crossed the impressive milestone of Rs. 100 crore at the global box office.

This past year has been particularly fruitful for Dosanjh. He not only delivered a critically acclaimed performance in Imtiaz Ali’s biographical musical drama Amar Singh Chamkila, but also impressed audiences in the multi-starrer Crew, alongside Tabu, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Kriti Sanon.

Kiran Rao opens up about divorce from Aamir Khan; says, “It’s been a very happy divorce”

Kiran Rao has expressed happiness following her divorce from Aamir Khan. Rao revealed in a recent interview that their divorce was a difficult decision to make, but she is glad they did. Aamir and Kiran declared their split in July 2021.

“It’s been a very happy divorce,” Rao said during an interview with Faye D’Souza and added, “I feel relationships need to be redefined from time to time because we change as human beings as we grow. We need different things and this (divorce) is what I felt would make me happy and has made me very happy, honestly.”

She said, “Before Aamir, I was single for a very long time. I really enjoyed my independence. I was lonely, but now I have Azad (her son), so I tend not to be lonely. I think loneliness is the only thing that most people are a bit worried about when they get divorced or lose a partner. I haven’t felt lonely at all. In fact, I am supported by both families, his family and mine. So, actually, it has been only good stuff. It’s been a very happy divorce.”

However, Kiran said that terminating their 15-year marriage wasn’t easy for any of them. The Laapataa Ladies director stated that the Bollywood actor “took a while to get there emotionally and mentally. “Rao further expressed that she knew that she would survive the divorce because she wanted “independent, individual time to myself and my life.”

Kiran Rao continued by stating that, while she and Aamir had split ways, they do not require a document to describe their relationship. She said, “There’s a lot of love, lot of respect, there’s a lot of shared history, shared laughs, shared ideology, there’s lots of things that we look for in each other. So, I didn’t want to lose that. When I was secure enough to say, ‘Yeah, we don’t need the paper to say that we are married but we know what we mean to each other’… This is a partnership which will stand the test of time despite the divorce.”

Apart from Shah Rukh Khan, Rekha, Jeetendra, Priyanka Chopra and Sham Kaushal to also feature in Rakesh Roshan’s documentary: Report

After a year of filming, director Shashi Ranjan has finally wrapped up the docu-series chronicling the remarkable journey of the Roshan family in Bollywood. Spanning over four to five episodes, the series promises a captivating exploration of the Roshans’ enduring influence on Indian cinema.

According to a report in Mid-day, the narrative takes us back to 1948, when a young and ambitious Roshan (the family patriarch) arrived in Bombay. With his exceptional talent, he quickly rose through the ranks, becoming one of the most successful music composers of his era. We then witness the baton being passed down, with Rakesh Roshan, Roshan’s son, establishing himself as a force to be reckoned with in both acting and directing.

The docu-series doesn’t shy away from the present either. A significant focus is on Hrithik Roshan, the current superstar and grandson of the legendary Roshan. We’ll see his meteoric rise to fame, starting with the phenomenal success of his debut film Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai (2000). But the series goes beyond just box office triumphs. It delves into the challenges and personal struggles the family has faced, including Rakesh Roshan’s battle with throat cancer. This unflinching portrayal promises a well-rounded perspective on their journey.

To capture this multi-faceted story, director Ranjan has spoken extensively with a diverse range of individuals. This includes not only the Roshans themselves, but also their close collaborators and friends. We can expect to hear from veteran actors like Jeetendra and Rekha, who shared the screen with the Roshans in their earlier days. Contemporary superstars like Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra also lend their voices.

Furthermore, the series acknowledges the long-standing bond between the Roshans and another of Bollywood’s most prominent families – the Kapoors.  It delves into the nitty-gritty of filmmaking as well. Sham Kaushal, a mainstay action director in many of Rakesh Roshan’s films, is confirmed to be part of the interviewee list. His perspective will shed light on the creative process behind some of the Roshans’ most iconic action sequences.

Roshan Lal Nagrath aka Roshan was born in Gujranwala in present-day Pakistan in 1917. He arrived in Mumbai (then Bombay) and established a career in the Hindi film industry as a music composer. He did a lot of films in the 1950s and 1960s. His son Rakesh Roshan started his career in acting and then turned to filmmaking and continues to make films. His second son Rajesh Roshan is a music composer. Their son Hrithik Roshan is one of the biggest stars of Bollywood.
