SCOOP: Luv Ranjan to produce Ajay Devgn’s next with Jagan Shakti; Film goes on floors in December

Over the years, Luv Ranjan and Ajay Devgn have become professionals turned into really good friends. While the duo has already worked together on De De Pyaar De and the sequel, De De Pyaar De 2, we hear that they are all set to hit a hat-trick. According to our highly placed sources, Ajay Devgn’s next with Mission Mangal director, Jagan Shakti will be produced by Luv Ranjan.

“It’s a big budget high concept action film and will see Ajay Devgn in a complete new avatar. Luv, Jagan and Ajay are excited to explore this space of action together in their next directorial. The film will go on floors by December 2024 and will hit the big screen in 2025,” a trade source told us.

The trade source further added that after Hero No. 1 with Tiger Shroff was shelved, Jagan reached out to Luv Ranjan with his script and got an instant okay from the director-turned-producer. “Luv is excited to expand his banner and what better than an action film with Ajay Devgn in the lead. On hearing the script, Luv knew that it’s a premise meant for an actor like Ajay Devgn, who heard the subject and okayed it immediately,” the source told us further.

Before moving on to Luv Ranjan and Jagan Shakti’s next, Ajay will wrap up shooting for Son of Sardar 2 and De De Pyaar De 2, which are presently on floors.

Maidaan director Amit Sharma to helm film based on Operation Khukri

Following the success of Maidaan, director Amit Ravindernath Sharma is set to embark on another historical project. This time, his lens will turn to the Indian Armed Forces’ daring rescue operation in Sierra Leone, known as Operation Khukri.

The film will delve into the heroic efforts of Indian soldiers who were deployed as part of a United Nations peacekeeping mission in July 2000. Faced with a hostage crisis, the Indian Armed Forces executed a complex and daring rescue operation, showcasing their exceptional courage and professionalism on the global stage.
Amit Sharma on Helming Film Based on Operation Khukri 
Excited about the opportunity to bring this inspiring story to the big screen, Amit Sharma, in a statement published in a Mid-Day report, expressed his enthusiasm for the project. “I am thrilled to be collaborating with Athena E&M and Chrome Pictures on this monumental film,” he said. “Operation Khukri is a story that deserves to be told, and I am committed to doing justice to the bravery and sacrifice of our soldiers.”

Recognizing the scale and complexity of the operation, the director acknowledged the challenges ahead. “Recreating the magnitude of this mission, involving multiple branches of the Indian Armed Forces will be a formidable task,” he said. “Additionally, accurately portraying events that unfolded in a foreign country adds another layer of complexity.”

To ensure the authenticity and impact of the film, the production has brought on board renowned screenwriter Girish Koli, who previously worked on the critically acclaimed Kesari. Koli expressed his excitement about the project, stating, “The sheer scale of Operation Khukri and the immense pride associated with the rescue mission makes it an incredibly compelling story to adapt for the screen.”

As the project enters its development phase, the casting process is underway.

The industry is gearing up for the mega clash on Independence Day when Stree 2, Vedaa and Khel Khel Mein will be released in cinemas, all on the same day, on August 15. The trailer of Stree 2 was launched last week. Yesterday, on July 23, the makers of Khel Khel Mein unveiled the motion poster and on Thursday, July 25, the cast of the film would release the song ‘Hauli Hauli’. The makers of Vedaa are not far behind and if all goes well, the trailer of the John Abraham-Sharvari will be out by Monday, July 29.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “The team of the film are working on certain modalities. As of now, the date locked for the trailer release is July 29.”

The source further said, “A grand event is being planned in Mumbai. A final call will be taken within a couple of days after which invites will be sent to the media.”

The lead actors of the film – John Abraham and Sharvari – will be present along with director Nikkhil Advani and others at the trailer launch. This would also be the first time in more than a year that John would interact with the media. The last such big event where the dashing actor was seen was the success meet of his 2023 blockbuster Pathaan, co-starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone.

Vedaa is backed by Zee Studios, Emmay Entertainment & JA Entertainment. The teaser was released way back on March 19. Earlier, the film was all set to release on July 12. In June, the date was pushed to August 15. On the occasion of Guru Purnima on July 22, a new poster was dropped by the makers. It mentioned the release date in big, bold letters and made it clear that the action entertainer is all set to arrive this Independence Day.

Following the success of the beloved character of Guddu Pandit, Ali Fazal is set to join the cast of Rakht Brahmand as the lead opposite Samantha Prabhu. The ensemble cast includes Aditya Roy Kapoor and Wamiqa Gabbi in key roles.

The period drama/fantasy series Rakht Brahmand is helmed by the visionary duo Raj and DK, while Rahi Anil Barve of Tumbbad fame will direct the series. This will be the next major project for Ali following the anticipation of the release of Anurag Basu’s Metro In Dino, Lahore 1947 produced by Aamir Khan, and Thug Life directed by Mani Ratnam.

A source revealed, “The project is a marvelous vision of Raj & DK, it’s definitely a step forward in its genre of fantasy drama. The cast has finally all been locked and the shoot is set to start next week. Ali will be shooting for the series through August while also completing small schedules of his other projects. The show came to him and the vision of the show was enough to get Ali excited to be part of the series. It’s a really interesting part, something he has never done before both from character perspective and also genre-wise”.

The 6 part limited series is set to commence shoot in Mumbai, starting next week.
