Kill to get Hollywood remake: John Wick producers partner with Lionsgate to develop Nagesh Bhatt directorial (Details Inside!)
Lionsgate and 87Eleven Entertainment, the production company behind the popular John Wick franchise, are teaming up to develop an English-language remake of the upcoming Indian action film Kill.
Original Kill Hits Theaters This Week
The Hindi-language original, directed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhat, is slated for release on July 4th in the US. The film, which has already garnered international attention with screenings at the Toronto International Film Festival (Midnight Madness) and Tribeca Film Festival, follows star-crossed lovers Amrit (Lakshya) and Tulika (Tanya Maniktala) whose relationship is threatened by an arranged marriage. Amrit, determined to win back Tulika, embarks on a daring rescue mission with his friend Viresh.
High Praise for the Original Film
Kill has impressed action movie veterans, with Chad Stahelski (producer for 87Eleven Entertainment) calling it “one of the most vivid, wild, and creative action movies I’ve seen recently.” He praised director Nikhil Nagesh Bhat’s “relentless action sequences” and expressed his excitement about bringing the story to a wider audience through the English remake.
A Collaboration Between Renowned Studios
The remake will be a joint effort between 87Eleven Entertainment and the original production companies, Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment. Both Dharma Productions, known for their global presence under the leadership of Karan Johar, and Sikhya Entertainment, the award-winning studio behind India’s first Oscar win (The Elephant Whisperers), are excited about the project.
In a joint statement, the producers said they are “thrilled that 87Eleven Entertainment will produce a remake of our film in English.” They view this collaboration as a “big win for Indian cinema” and a testament to the film’s potential for international appeal.
The details about the remake, including casting and release date, are still under wraps.
