Karan Johar was the chief guest at the launch of a production house started by Usha Kakade. The veteran filmmaker raised laughs and also raised some important points about Marathi cinema. Karan began by saying, “I’d like to congratulate Usha ji on the launch of Usha Kakade Productions. And if the logo reveal is so dramatic, then it’s safe to say that yeh toh sirf trailer tha. Bahut saari filmein abhi baaki hai.” He also added, “Usha ji is a friend and she has contributed so much through her philanthropic work.”

KJo further said, “I am a huge fan of Marathi cinema. I am privileged that I am on this stage to launch a powerful production house. I also saw immense talent on stage (looks at actors of the film Vicky who were earlier on the stage) – they are clicking selfies with each other right now. Very lovely!”

Talking about the announcement of the first film under Usha Kakade Productions, Karan said, “Vicky is a very lucky title. Iska ‘Donor’ bhi ban chukka hai! Moreover, Vicky Kaushal is a big star. Hence, Usha ji has chosen a lucky title. I hope the film is a huge hit. Or else, I’ll be blamed for its failure. And I’ll be very happy if I can get some profit from the film’s earnings!” He also quipped that “Usha ji, you must promise me that whenever you have such a grand event, please do invite me.”

The host then asked Karan Johar to mouth a few lines in Marathi. KJo, at this, said, “It’s unfortunate that my Marathi is not good. I am very proud of the state and city I live in. I am also proud of the deep-rooted culture and heritage of not just Marathi cinema but Marathi history in the large scheme of things.” He got claps and hooting when he revealed, “As a kid, I used to watch a TV show ‘Aamchi Maati Aamchi Manasa’.” Eventually, Karan did end up speaking up in Marathi, with help from the anchor.

The host then asked what Marathi cinema could do to further its reach and its box office collections like South industries. Karan remarked, “We were privileged that we got a chance to remake Sairat (2016), which I think is the crowning glory of Marathi cinema. I still remember the day I saw that film. I was so shaken that I couldn’t say a word for 10-15 minutes. What an outstanding performance; I bow down my head to the incredible talent.”

He continued, “Whatever Marathi cinema is doing, it’s great and we should feel proud about it. Kabhi kabhi comparisons mein hum hamari value kam kar dete hai. We should say that it is the best cinema in the world. We should believe it and it’ll be there.”

He also said, “We are proud to have such rich, beautiful talent in Marathi cinema, be it actors, directors, producers, music composers or technicians. And speaking of talent, Manish Malhotra is here!” The costume designer was another chief guest at the event who dropped in late. Karan signed off by saying, “Telugu and Tamil cinema gets a lot of love but hum apne aap mein bhi bahut khush hai aur accha kaam kar rahe hai.”

Shatrughan Sinha BREAKS SILENCE on Sonakshi Sinha’s rumoured wedding plans: “She hasn’t told me anything about it”

Actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha has responded to the swirling rumours about his daughter, Sonakshi Sinha, reportedly tying the knot with her rumoured boyfriend Zaheer Iqbal. Reports suggested that Sonakshi and Zaheer are set to marry on June 23 in a private ceremony in Mumbai. However, Shatrughan Sinha has stated that he has no knowledge of these plans.

“Main bhi utna hi janta hoon jitna media se pada hai”
In an interview with Times Now, Shatrughan Sinha shared his thoughts on the matter. “I am in Delhi right now. After the election results, I flew down here. I haven’t spoken to anyone about my daughter’s plans. So your question is, is she getting married? The answer is that she hasn’t told me anything about it. Main bhi utna hi janta ho jitna main media maine padha hai. If and when she takes me into confidence, my wife and I will give the couple my blessings. We wish her all happiness always,” he said.
Shatrughan Sinha trusts daughter Sonakshi Sinha’s judgement
Shatrughan Sinha stated that he trusts Sonakshi’s decision-making abilities. “We trust our daughter’s judgement completely. She would never make an extra-constitutional or illegal decision. As a consenting adult, she has the right to make her own decisions. Having said that, I would like to say that whenever my daughter gets married, I would like to be dancing right in front of the baaraat,” he added.

The veteran actor also revealed that he has been inundated with calls regarding the rumoured wedding. “I am being asked by people close to me why I am not aware of this (the supposed wedding), and the media is aware of it. All I can say is, aaj kal ke bachche consent nahin lete maa-baap ke, sirf inform karte hain. We are waiting to be informed,” he concluded.
Inside the Sonakshi Sinha-Zaheer Iqbal wedding plans
A Hindustan Times report suggests that the couple will host a two-day wedding ceremony. “The wedding is going to be an intimate affair, with only the couple’s families and close friends in attendance. Sonakshi doesn’t want to give out much details of her wedding before it happens and wants to keep it just in her close circle. Many of her actor friends will also be marking their presence to be a part of the most special day for the couple,” an insider shared.

As of now, neither Sonakshi Sinha nor Zaheer Iqbal has confirmed the wedding rumours. Fans are eagerly waiting for an official statement from the couple regarding their wedding plans.

Bombay HC directs removal of Salman Khan’s name from custodial death plea

Bombay HC directs removal of Salman Khan’s name from custodial death plea

The Bombay High Court has ordered the removal of actor Salman Khan’s name from a petition seeking a CBI probe into the alleged custodial death of Anuj Thapan. For the unversed, Anuj, accused of supplying weapons in the case involving the firing outside Salman Khan’s house, was found dead in a police lock-up toilet on May 1. His mother, Rita Devi, filed a petition in the High Court on May 3, alleging foul play and requesting a CBI investigation into her son’s death. She had included Salman Khan as a respondent in the plea.

Court’s reasoning for removing Salman Khan’s name
A division bench of Justices Revati Mohite-Dere and Justice Shyam Chandak directed Ms. Devi to remove the actor’s name. The court pointed out that the petition did not seek any relief from Mr. Khan and there were no allegations against him.  They stated, “He is not a necessary party.” The court stated that Ms. Devi’s concern is the death of her son, and the investigation into that will proceed.
Petitioner’s argument and court’s response
Ms. Devi’s lawyer argued that while no relief was sought from Salman Khan, he should still be part of the ongoing CID probe. The court, however, responded that the decision of who to include in the investigation rests with the CID. They advised the petitioner’s lawyer to focus on the core issue – her son’s death – and avoid unnecessary digressions.
Background of the case
On April 14, two shooters opened fire outside Salman Khan’s residence. They were later arrested. Thapan was then arrested in Punjab on April 26, accused of supplying weapons to the shooters. His death in custody on May 1 sparked controversy, with his mother alleging police brutality.
Current status of case
The court has directed the magistrate to issue a fresh summons to Ms. Devi to record her statement. The CID investigation into Thapan’s death is ongoing.

Tisca Chopra recalls being REPLACED by “someone younger” four days before shoot: “It’s a very sad world we’re living in”

Tisca Chopra recalls being REPLACED by “someone younger” four days before shoot: “It’s a very sad world we’re living in”

Acclaimed actress Tisca Chopra recently spoke out about facing ageism in the film industry. In a candid interview with Galatta Plus, Chopra revealed a disheartening experience where she was replaced by “someone younger” just days before a film shoot.

The Taare Zameen Par actress recalled, “In 2016, there was a particular director who strung me along for a bit of time. We started doing prep, costumes, lines, and everything. About four days before the shoot, he said they were going with someone younger. Then, he tried to fob it off by saying it’s the call of the producers. But I could see that it was just… I didn’t want to hear that anymore.”
Tisca Chopra says, “It’s a very sad world we’re living in”
The actress further expressed her disappointment with the film industry’s focus on youth over experience. She elaborated, “By that time, I also got a sense of the fact that there were things going on in my head that I had been ignoring for some time. I’ve had the benefit of working with wonderful directors and learning from them by watching their process and imbibing that.” She added, “If youth and beauty are the only two things that are attractive in a particular market… my insides rebelled against that. If they are interested only in the young and beautiful, it’s a very sad world we’re living in.”
Tisca Chopra turns frustration into creation
This experience, however, also ignited a creative fire in Chopra.  She decided to take control of her narrative and explore filmmaking. She revealed, “I had been doing this piece called Chutney at Prithvi Theatre, Mumbai. It was based on Bhisham Sahni’s story. It too had morphed into something else by that time in my head. So, I narrated that to a few, very close people and we came up with the story and wrote it. The protagonist was neither good-looking nor young. Nor did she have any other privileges. She was not well-spoken and didn’t have a male heir or a child. And yet, she controls the narrative in that story.”

Speaking of the professional front, Tisca was last seen in Netflix’s original film Murder Mubarak, directed by Homi Adajania.
