Opposite Alia Bhatt is Vedang Raina. A newcomer to the industry following his debut in The Archies, Raina has already generated a buzz. Some reports suggest he might play Bhatt’s brother in the film, but the official confirmation on their characters’ relationship is awaited.

Adding to the excitement is the fact that Bhatt is not just the leading actress in Jigra, but also a co-producer under her banner Eternal Sunshine Productions, alongside the established Dharma Productions. This venture marks Bhatt’s second foray into production, following Darlings.

Khel Khel Mein vs Vedaa: Akshay Kumar and John Abraham’s clashes on Independence Day have always led to BIG numbers at the box office

Khel Khel Mein vs Vedaa: Akshay Kumar and John Abraham’s clashes on Independence Day have always led to BIG numbers at the box office

Yesterday, the trade and social media went into a tizzy when news came in that the much-awaited film of 2024, Pushpa 2: The Rule, might not make it on August 15, as scheduled. In the evening, it came to light that Akshay Kumar’s comedy drama, Khel Khel Mein, which was planned for a September 6 release, has now been preponed to Independence Day. Meanwhile, earlier this week, Vedaa, starring John Abraham, was postponed from July 12 to August 15. This means that Akshay Kumar and John Abraham will clash for the third time on Independence Day!

Their first clash on Independence Day took place in 2018. Akshay Kumar’s period sports film, Gold, took a huge opening of Rs. 25.25 crores. The film soon dropped but managed to cross the Rs. 100 crores mark. John Abraham’s Satyameva Jayate took the industry by surprise as it opened at Rs. 19.50 crores. It collected Rs. 80.50 crores in its lifetime and ended up becoming a Super-Hit.

A year later, Akshay Kumar again had the biggest opening of his career on Independence Day with Mission Mangal. It had first-day collections amounting to Rs. 29.16 crores and was also the superstar’s first film in the Rs. 200 crores club. Batla House, starring John Abraham, also had a praiseworthy opening day figure – Rs. 14 crores. The word of mouth was strong and its lifetime collections were a huge Rs. 87.22 crores.

This shows that both actors had a great run on the National Holiday. Also, these clashes never led to ugly fights over screen sharing and the release happened peacefully. It seems like 2024 Independence Day will be no exception.

Besides Akshay Kumar, Khel Khel Mein also stars Taapsee Pannu, Vaani Kapoor, Ammy Virk, Aditya Seal, Pragya Jaiswal and Fardeen Khan. It is directed by Mudassar Aziz and is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Vipul D Shah, Ashwin Varde, Rajesh Bahl, Shashikant Sinha and Ajay Rai.

Vedaa, meanwhile, also features Sharvari, who’s currently riding high with the success of Munjya. The action entertainer is directed by Nikkhil Advani and its stylishly cut teaser caught attention. It is backed by Zee Studios.

Interestingly, Akshay Kumar and John Abraham have clashed outside Independence Day as well. Akshay’s Khakee and John’s Aetbaar were released together on the Republic Day weekend of 2004. The former was a decent success while the latter was a disaster. A year later, Akshay Kumar-starrer Insan and John Abraham-starrer Elaan clashed on January 14, 2005. Both were multi-starrers and both bombed at the box office.

Kartik Aaryan starrer Chandu Champion opts for audience-friendly pricing with Rs. 150 ticket scheme on June 14

Kartik Aaryan starrer Chandu Champion opts for audience-friendly pricing with Rs. 150 ticket scheme on June 14

Bollywood actor Kartik Aaryan’s upcoming film Chandu Champion has taken a unique approach to ticket pricing, opting for a Rs. 150 ticket scheme across theatres in India on June 14. This move has been met with positive reactions from fans and industry insiders alike, who see it as a welcome change in an era of rising movie ticket prices.

Traditionally, ticket prices for mainstream Hindi films have been steadily increasing, often exceeding Rs. 200-400 in major cities. This can be a barrier for many moviegoers, particularly those in smaller towns and cities. The Chandu Champion team’s decision to prioritize affordability is a refreshing one, potentially making the film more accessible to a wider audience. By offering a Rs. 150 ticket, the makers could be aiming to maximize viewership within this demographic.

Thirdly, the makers might be hoping to generate positive word-of-mouth through this audience-friendly approach. A lower ticket price could lead to higher footfall in theaters, creating a buzz around the film. This positive sentiment could snowball into increased ticket sales in the long run, even if initial viewership is driven by the lower price point.

Meanwhile, the film is getting the widest release. Countries like Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, and Georgia will be the first time witness a Kartik Aaryan film in their country. The film will mark its presence in 1000+ locations in more than 70 + countries and more than 1300 screens. Interestingly, the film will be Kartik’s widest overseas release ever, and it will be released in the maximum number of countries for him. Moreover, in Europe, it will be released in the maximum number of countries and screens of his career.

Directed by Kabir Khan and jointly produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and Kabir Khan, Chandu Champion is set for a June 14, 2024 release.

Supreme Court halts release of Annu Kapoor starrer Hamare Baarah: “If the teaser is so offensive, then what about the whole movie”

Supreme Court halts release of Annu Kapoor starrer Hamare Baarah: “If the teaser is so offensive, then what about the whole movie”

The release of the Bollywood film Hamare Baarah has been put on hold by the Supreme Court of India. The court intervened on Thursday after a petition challenged the Bombay High Court’s decision to allow the movie’s release.

According to Bar and Bench, the controversy surrounding Hamare Baarah centers on allegations that the film portrays Muslim women in a derogatory light and misinterprets a verse from the Quran. The petitioner, Azhar Basha Tamboli, argued that the movie violates the rights enshrined in Articles 19(2) and 25 of the Indian Constitution, which guarantees freedom of expression and the right to practice religion, respectively.

The Bombay High Court’s handling of the case has been marked by inconsistency. Initially, on June 5, 2024, the court placed a restraining order on the film’s release until June 14. This decision was based on concerns raised by the petitioner. Subsequently, the court directed the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to form a committee, including a Muslim member, to review the movie.

However, the High Court then reversed its stance and allowed the release after the filmmakers agreed to remove certain dialogues deemed objectionable. This move came despite the committee seeking additional time to submit its final comments.

The Supreme Court, upon hearing the petitioner’s appeal challenging the Bombay High Court’s decision, expressed reservations about the film’s content based on the teaser itself. The court noted that despite the filmmakers’ claims of removing offensive scenes, the teaser still contained problematic content.

Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta, presiding over the case, highlighted the apparent contradiction, “If the teaser is so offensive, then what about the whole movie… Prima facie it seems you have failed since you yourself deleted the scenes from the teaser.”

The Supreme Court ultimately stayed the release of Hamare Baarah and requested the Bombay High Court to expedite its decision on the petition challenging the CBFC’s certification. This implies that the High Court will need to re-evaluate the film and determine whether its content aligns with the established guidelines and respects religious sensitivities.

The core issues at stake in the Hamare Baarah controversy are twofold. Firstly, the film is accused of misrepresenting Muslim women and portraying them as lacking agency. This raises concerns about fair and accurate representation of religious communities within Indian cinema. Secondly, the alleged misinterpretation of a Quranic verse highlights the potential dangers of portraying religious texts without proper understanding. Such misinterpretations can inflame religious tensions and create social discord.

Starring Annu Kapoor, Manoj Joshi, and Paritosh Tripathi, Hamare Baarah is set in Uttar Pradesh, and delves into the implications of population growth, examining its societal, economic, and cultural impacts.

Jointly produced by Ravi S Gupta, Birender Bhagat, Sanjay Nagpal, and Sheo Balak Singh, with Trilok Nath Prasad as Co-producer, Kamal Chandra as director and Ajendra Ajay as creative director, Hamare Baarah features a screenplay penned by Rajan Agarwal.

Sunny Leone’s performance at Kerala Engineering College cancelled by university: Reports

Sunny Leone’s performance at Kerala Engineering College cancelled by university: Reports

Reports from Malayalam media outlets Manorama and Mathrubhumi suggest that a planned dance performance by Bollywood actor Sunny Leone at the University College of Engineering in Thiruvananthapuram has been cancelled.

Dr. Mohanan Kunnummal, the vice-chancellor of Kerala University, reportedly instructed the university registrar to ensure that Sunny Leone’s show was not included in the college’s program list. This decision comes following a stampede incident at a concert last year at Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) that tragically resulted in the deaths of four students and injuries to over 60 others.

Sunny Leone, who is currently filming for a yet-to-be-titled Malayalam film, was scheduled to perform at the engineering college on July 5. She recently shared a glimpse of the film’s muhurat ceremony on her Instagram account, expressing her excitement about the project.

Besides this, Sunny Leone is also making headlines for her upcoming Tamil film, Quotation Gang. She will be seen sharing the screen space with Priyamani and Jackie Shroff. Earlier this month, Sunny took to her social media to share the posters. “In Theatres from July! A Hyper-link movie. Let’s unveil the mysterious minds, a deceptive couple, two soul-stirring identities, a swaggering teenager and bonds that don’t stand the test of time.” she wrote.
