Produced by Ram Sampath, directed by Amrit Raj, and with Puneet Krishna as the writer and showrunner, this series brings together a stellar ensemble cast including Manav Kaul, Tillotama Shome, Shweta Basu Prasad, Sumit Gulati, Naresh Gosain, Naina Sareen, Faisal Malik and Ashok Pathak. Each character adds a unique flavour to this uproarious gangster adventure, promising non-stop entertainment from start to finish.

Junaid Khan, son of Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan, has finally entered the world of Hindi cinema. This year marked his debut with the film Maharaj, directed by Siddharth P Malhotra. However, the road to release wasn’t smooth sailing. The movie sparked controversy, causing a temporary hold-up, before finally reaching audiences. In a conversation with Bollywood Hungama, his first interview post the release of the movie, the actor talked about the case which led to the delay of the release.

Junaid Khan stated, “We were all on edge a little bit, I think. But there was a lot of faith in the film from all of us and people who have seen the film.”

The actor also said that people who had watched the film before the release acknowledged that everything was handled sensitively. “That faith was always there from Yash Raj Films and Netflix. That gave us some courage,” he concluded.

Maharaj follows the story of Karsandas Mulji, a journalist and social reformer, played by Junaid Khan. The film delves into the sensitive topic of the 1862 Maharaj Libel Case, a landmark legal battle that addressed social issues in pre-independence India.

The controversy surrounding the film arose when the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), a Hindu nationalist organization, raised objections. The details of their concerns remain unclear, but reports suggest they might have centered on the film’s portrayal of a religious figure or the historical accuracy of the events depicted.

After a month of speculation about Aditya Roy Kapur’s next project with directors Raj & DK, the news is confirmed – it’s a web series titled Rakhtabeej. Aditya will be leading the show and sharing the screen with Samantha Ruth Prabhu, reuniting her with the director duo after their successful collaborations on The Family Man 2 and the upcoming Citadel: Honey Bunny.

After his OTT debut in The Night Manager last year, it seems the actor has found a new platform to showcase his talent. According to a report in Mid-day, sources revealed that Kapur was in discussions with Raj & DK for the past six months before finally signing on to the project in May. The hunt for the leading lady didn’t take long either, with Samantha Prabhu quickly coming on board.

Given the action-heavy nature of Rakhtabeej, both Kapur and Prabhu have reportedly begun their preparations for their roles. The actors are also expected to participate in joint training sessions to further enhance their on-screen chemistry and combat skills.

While Raj & DK are currently focused on completing the third season of The Family Man, their commitment to Rakhtabeej remains strong. If all goes according to plan, filming for the new series will begin in August.
