Baahubali fame Sathyaraj to play villain in Salman Khan starrer Sikandar? Here’s what we know

Salman Khan fans have plenty to look forward to next Eid with the announcement of his action-thriller film, Sikandar. Directed by AR Murugadoss, the film is confirmed to release on Eid 2025 and will star Khan alongside Rashmika Mandanna. According to a recent report by journalist and producer Chithra Laksmanan, South Indian actor Sathyaraj, known for his role as Kattappa in Baahubali, will be seen playing the villain in Sikandar. However, an official confirmation from the film’s makers is still awaited.

In a recent interview with the Times of India, director AR Murugadoss hinted at the film’s content. He described Sikandar as a high-octane action film packed with emotions and a powerful social message.  Murugadoss also mentioned the pan-India appeal of the film and teased a new side of Salman Khan for audiences to experience.

Murugadoss revealed that the project with Salman Khan had been discussed five years ago but was put on hold due to unforeseen circumstances. Recently, Salman expressed renewed interest in the project after a fresh narration, leading to a quick green light.

Sikandar is shaping up to be a grand production. Earlier reports from Pinkvilla suggest the film will be shot in Portugal and other European countries alongside locations in India.  With a reported budget of Rs 400 crore, Sikandar is poised to be the most ambitious project for producer Sajid Nadiadwala to date.

Dhadak 2: Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri starrer confirmed to be a remake of Pa Ranjith’s Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal

Dhadak 2: Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri starrer confirmed to be a remake of Pa Ranjith’s Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal

Zee Studios, Dharma Productions, and Cloud 9 Pictures have joined forces to present Dhadak 2, a film that promises to captivate audiences with its compelling narrative and fresh lead pair. Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri take center stage in this much-anticipated sequel. Stepping into the director’s chair is Shazia Iqbal, who promises to deliver a story that explores the complexities of love against the backdrop of social barriers. However, it has been confirmed that the film is a remake of the Tamil movie Pariyerum Perumal released in 2018 starring Kathir and Anandhi, while Yogi Babu and G. Marimuthu appear in supporting roles. The news was confirmed in the end credits of the Hindi remake’s announcement.

Pariyerum Perumal (meaning The Wandering God) is a 2018 Tamil political drama film directed by Pa Ranjith. The story revolves around Pariyan (Kathir), a young man from the oppressed “Pallars” caste in rural Tamil Nadu. He faces discrimination and humiliation from the dominant “Vanniyar” caste. Pariyan falls in love with Jothi (Anandhi), a girl from the Vanniyar caste, which is forbidden due to social hierarchy. The film explores themes of caste violence, untouchability, and the struggle for equality.

Pariyerum Perumal received critical acclaim for its powerful portrayal of caste struggles and its raw social commentary. The film sparked discussions about caste issues in contemporary India. It faced some controversy due to its bold portrayal of sensitive topics. The film’s soundtrack by Santhosh Narayanan was also praised for its powerful music.

Meanwhile, Dhadak 2 carries the torch forward from the successful Dhadak franchise. The film’s core message is clear: love that transcends social limitations.  Will the lead couple defy societal norms and find happiness together?

Dhadak 2 will release in theatres on November 22nd, 2024.
